This unit aims to instil an appreciation of how technology can be used to assist business, without the technology becoming an end in itself. In particular, the unit aims to generate an awareness of the importance of information to decision-making and how to provide such information to ensure its usefulness to the decision makers. Students gain a strong foundation of business systems fundamentals and the influence of the Internet on business stakeholders; customers, suppliers, manufacturers, service makers, regulators, managers and employees.
This unit covers the management perspective of contemporary data management (particularly big data) issues in an organisational/ business context. Students will be introduced to issues that arise when data is gathered from multiple sources in various formats for many diverse purposes, as well as the relevant managerial, organisational, governance and Information Technology (IT) strategy issues. Students will explore why key aspects of a contemporary data management such as Master Data Management, Cloud storage, Social Media data, Data Warehouses, non-relational databases, Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service and Software as a Service should not be regarded as exclusively techno-centric concepts but also as a business/management consideration.
Network Administration is a one semester unit. There are no pre-requisites for this unit. The overall aim of this unit is to be able to design, configure, secure and optimise a Windows Active Directory network for a small enterprise.
INF10003 is a 12 week unit with absolutely no pre-requisites and is all about developing knowledge and skills on how technology both supports and fosters growth in businesses. The aim is to deliver you an awareness of the importance of information in decision-making and how to deliver that information effectively. Students gain a strong foundation in business information systems including building understandings of the digital age, process thinking, key players in the tech sector, digital business, internet infrastructure, enterprise systems, systems development approaches, supply chains, customer relations, green technologies, and more.
Every day we are faced with problems that require analytical thinking, creativity and resourcefulness to solve. This unit challenges you to explore different approaches to analysing and solving problems in an organisation framework. You will develop the ability to apply analysis techniques to unfamiliar problems and present your investigation through the use of a wide range of innovative Information Communication Technologies (ICT), including prototyping, cloud-based tools, report writing and presentations. In addition, you are encouraged to reflect upon your learning throughout the unit.
Introduction to Business Information Systems will help you to gain an appreciation of how technology can be used to assist business. You will further your understanding of organisations in the digital economy and how information systems (IS) have evolved to their current role and purpose in business and society. You will also examine data and information management in the digital economy, and ethical, cultural and security issues relating to data management. Additionally, you will learn about business processes, evolution and support of IS.
